The Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) is delighted to welcome Andy Crichton to the organisation as Technical Manager from 30 June 2026.
Andy joins the Guild with more than 15 years’ experience across the architectural ironmongery and access control sector, having worked in both manufacturing and architectural ironmongery environments.
His career includes roles with ASSA ABLOY, SimonsVoss and SALTO, where he has developed significant expertise in specification, electronic access control and integrated door solutions.
Andy is already well known to many within the industry through his role as GAI Hub Ambassador for Scotland, where he has shown a strong commitment to knowledge sharing, professional development and engagement across the architectural ironmongery community.
In his new role, Andy will support the continued development and delivery of the GAI’s technical services, helping members and the wider construction sector navigate an increasingly complex technical and regulatory landscape through practical guidance, insight and expertise.
His appointment reflects the Guild’s ongoing investment in strengthening its technical resources at a time when competence, compliance and regulatory change continue to place increasing demands on the industry.
Working closely with Technical Director Douglas Masterson, Andy will help shape the next phase of the GAI’s technical offering, supporting the development of guidance, technical content and industry best practice that reflects the evolving needs of the sector.
Douglas Masterson, Technical Director of the GAI, said:
"Andy’s experience across both architectural ironmongery and access control, combined with his passion for the industry, makes him an excellent addition to the team.
His appointment represents an important step in our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality technical support and leadership to our members and the wider sector."
Andy Crichton added:
"I’m delighted to be joining the GAI at such an important time for the industry. I look forward to working closely with Douglas and the wider team to support members, contribute to technical excellence and help drive standards across the sector."
