Celebrating success: GAI publishes 2023 review

The Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) has published a 2023 ‘celebrating success’ review to highlight its key activities and outcomes over the last 12 months.

The two-page table summarises outputs across six key Guild objectives: building competence; raising standards; influencing specifiers; representing the industry; supporting members; and securing the future.

Key performance indicators show that through the year the GAI trained 327 students from 20 countries through its education programme and held 67 CPD sessions to support the development of architectural ironmongery professionals.
More than 300 technical queries were resolved for members via the helpline service, and the online Knowledge Base was expanded with new publications to now reach more than 100 technical resources.

Among the publications and resources published over the 12 months were new architectural hardware user guides for building owners, managers, and end-users, with four variants for residential, commercial, healthcare and education sectors.

A unique new architectural ironmongery overlay to the RIBA Plan of Work provided the platform for the Architect + Designers’ Guide to Architectural Ironmongery, a 32pp publication which was distributed and promoted to specifiers and professionals throughout the construction sector.

The Guide secured a commendation at the Trade Association Forum (TAF) Awards 2024, one of three GAI successes, along with a commendation in the Association/Supplier Partnership category for our work with Leader Marketing Partnership, and a winning Magazine of the Year award for Architectural Ironmongery Journal (AIJ) which was relaunched in 2023 with a new format, design and editorial vision.

With representation on a total of 52 UK, European and international industry committees, and leadership of a major industry response to three separate Government consultations in England, Wales and Ireland, the review also highlights the many ways the Guild represented its membership comprising more than 350 companies across 30+ countries.

GAI President Kaz Spiewakowski said: “The 2023 ‘celebrating success’ graphic is a concise representation of the sheer breadth, depth and impact of the work carried out by the GAI on behalf of its members and the wider industry in the course of a single year.

“It paints a vivid picture of an organisation which is focused on supporting its members, their interests, and the sector environment within which they operate.”
