Following a member meeting in Palermo, the CEN and CENLEC general assemblies have confirmed that the British Standards Institution (BSI) will remain a member of both associations following the UK’s exit from the European Union.
CEN and CENLEC work to bring together the standardisation committees of 34 European countries. The BSI’s continued membership will provide clarity and confidence in the role of standards across Europe, and allow businesses to continue to trade within a settled system.
Commenting on the news, Douglas Masterson, GAI Technical Manager, said:
“The GAI is very pleased that the BSI will remain part of CEN and CENLEC. As a member of over 20 BSI committees, drafting panels and four European CEN Committees we are proud to represent our members at this level.
“European Standards will continue to play a significant role in the landscape of the UK, even in a post-Brexit world, and this development will help ensure continuity and clarity."
