We operate a 5-point PPE policy; therefore, safety boots, high-visibility vests, hard hats, safety glasses, and gloves are required to enter the laboratory area. We can provide some PPE if required; however, we may not have enough available for all attendees.
The tour itself can take anywhere between 30 minutes and 1 hour, depending on questions during the walkaround. The test scheduled for that afternoon is a 4-hour steel door test, due to begin at approximately 12:00 noon and conclude around 4:00pm. This timing works well as attendees will be able to see the effects of the test on the steel specimen, experience the residual heat from a safe distance, and observe the specimen being removed from the furnace for inspection.
