RegAI status is the benchmark standard for architectural ironmongery and one which lies at the very heart of what the GAI stands for – the highest possible standards of education and professionalism. This status requires that every architectural ironmonger is a qualified GAI Diploma holder and has been able to prove they are fully up-to-date with industry standards, regulations and legislation.
Attendance at Institute of Architectural Ironmongers Branch meetings is an integral part of being a Registered Architectural Ironmonger within the UK. The IAI currently have branches in the South West, South Central, South East, Midlands, North West, North East, Wales, Scotland, Ireland (Northern and the Republic). Check the calendar for upcoming meeting dates.
Earning Reg AI Status
At present, all newly qualified Diploma holders are invited to become RegAI from the 1st of January after qualification. Established Diploma holders have in the past been able to enter via an examination or points collection.
From January the 1st 2010 this will change. Any Diploma holders who wish to become RegAI must collect CPD points, beginning in the January after they qualify and continuing through the calendar year, and then apply for RegAI at the end of the year having collected the requisite CPD points.
Maintaining RegAI Status
Currently RegAI's collect points over a three year cycle, from January 2010 this will be reduced to a one year cycle with RegAI's being required to collect ten CPD points every calendar year.
The ten points are comprised of three categories:
1. Annual compulsory course work – 4 points.
2. CPD attendance either at IAI branch meeting or in-house training – 2 points.
3. CPD attendance as per category 2 and/or other recognised activities – 4 points.
All CPD activities completed must be in your Log sheet which can now be filled in electronically!
