This year’s Institute of Architectural Ironmongers AGM, held in Bath at the end of April was a well-attended and supported affair which sees the Institute in fine fettle for what the Institute’s incoming chairman calls A Year of Change.
The new Chairman, Andy Howland, sales director at Royde and Tucker was inaugurated by the outgoing chair, Peter Haywood. He outlined his plans for the Institute in the coming year which focused strongly on continuing to build on the grass roots strength of the organisation by encouraging more students to attend meetings and by increasing the profile of AIs within the Institute’s ranks.
To these ends the Institute has embarked on a programme of promotion and marketing to encourage students and AIs to join the organisation and, more importantly, attend meetings. This process has been brought in to focus as the GuildMark scheme takes off, making Reg AI status more important than ever before.
Key to getting the message out about the Institute and its activities is the timely completion of the Institute’s own web site. Mirroring the GAI’s new corporate redesign, the Institute’s site – at www.iai.uk.com - now offers live information about meetings, personnel, news and branches.
One of the highlights of the AGM was the presentation of the Institute’s award winners – the only awards in the industry recognising excellence in service. The Mike Lewis Trophy for excellence in customer service was awarded once again to the Royde & Tucker internal sales team with trophies collected by Henrieta Firkova, Philippa Maguire, Luis Fernandes, and Val Hornett. The Bob Ramage Trophy for services to the Institute was awarded to Shaun Brown, and Fellowship of the Institute was awarded to Wayne Harris of Harbrine, current President of the GAI and keen supporter of the Institute.
