GAI is Britain’s only trade body solely dedicated to promoting the interests of the whole architectural ironmongery business – architectural ironmongers themselves, and the manufacturers and wholesalers of architectural ironmongery products.
The Guild’s three hundred members cover the vast majority of businesses in a sector that is worth almost £700 million per annum.
At the heart of the Guild’s activities is their highly respected educational programme. The three-year Diploma course is the qualification for architectural ironmongers. Of the 2000+ diploma-holders, hundreds have taken their education further, achieving Registered Architectural Ironmonger (Reg AI) status, proving their commitment, expertise and professionalism.
Membership of the Guild is corporate but individual diploma holders and Reg AIs become members of the Institute of Architectural Ironmongers. With six regional branches the Institute is an invaluable source of expertise, information and networking opportunities.
The technical expertise on all aspects of architectural ironmongery to be found within the Guild is second-to-none. The Guild’s technical representatives speak for the industry at home and abroad on committees concerned with Building Regs, European Standards, legislation and the like. They then disseminate this information to the Guild’s members, ensuring that they are up-to-date with all of the industry’s important developments.
This technical backup which the Guild offers its members will only grow in significance and importance as new European Standards and regulations come into effect. As the regulatory and legislative complexity of scheduling architectural ironmongery increases, the significance of entrusting the task to a qualified and professional specialist can only be heightened.
