Advancing architectural ironmongery

Rewarding architectural excellence

The biennial GAI/RIBA Architectural Ironmongery Specification Awards are now in the final stages of judging the 2016/17 competition. Architectural ironmongers, architects, contractors and building owners have nominated projects in accordance with the different award categories. Nominations have shown architectural ironmongery at its best; enhancing not only the security, accessibility and safety of the building, but also adding to its functionality and longevity.

Each award is made to the whole specification team – both AI and architect – highlighting the importance of the professional partnership between the two disciplines. As in previous years, a panel of judges, drawn from respected AIs and architects, have determined a short list of project entries under each category. Assessors will then inspect and assess each short listed project. They will be examining aesthetics, fitness for purpose, functionality and most importantly correct specification and originality. They will be looking for excellence in ironmongery – projects that go beyond the ordinary to exceed expectations.

All these factors will be celebrated at the awards lunch on Thursday 30 March 2017 at the RIBA Head Office in London.
