THE CERTIFICATE IN ARCHITECTURAL HARDWARE - STAGE 1

Stage 1 is a solid footing into learning about many products that are collectively known as architectural hardware. There are many topics which are arranged in 4 learning blocks each with modules that total 12 over the entire Stage 1 syllabus. Success at Stage 1 enables you to continue to achieve The Certificate in Architectural Hardware by the combination of marks from both Stage 1 and 2. This is an online distance learning course with support to be provided by industry professionals, peers and employers.

You may wish to consider ‘fast-track’ by studying Stages 1 & 2 together in the same year. It can be done if you have the time and commitment. You will need to enrol for both Stages.

COURSE OBJECTIVE:

The overall objective of Stage 1 is to provide a solid foundation of product knowledge across a broad spectrum of the subjects listed below.

Stage 1 comprises 12 modules:

  • Handing of hardware
  • Hinges
  • Metals, metal finishes and plastics
  • Timber doors and frames
  • Seals
  • Steel doors and frames
  • Door closing devices Part 1
  • Locks and latches Part 1
  • Fixings and fastenings
  • Hardware Part 1
  • Door bolts
  • Basic scheduling

Upon enrolment and receipt of payment you will be given access to the modules. Throughout the 12 modules there are self-check questions to ensure that you have adequately grasped and understood the various topics. At the end of each of the 4 learning blocks there is a set of ‘must-do’ course work (block assessment) questions. The marks achieved in these will form part of your overall assessment of Stage 1.

At the end of Stage 1, you will sit a final online examination, upon successful completion of this, your marks will be carried forward to Stage 2 in order to achieve The Certificate in Architectural Hardware.

Stage 2 builds upon the solid learning of Stage 1. In fact, several of the modules are an extension of the topics that were covered at Stage 1. There are 12 modules which are arranged in 4 learning blocks and upon successful completion you will achieve The Certificate in Architectural Hardware. This is an online distance learning course with support to be povided by industry professionals, peers and employers. For Stage 2 and 3 learners, the GAI also offers face to face training to those that require it.

This platform of knowledge is needed if you are to go on to learn how to schedule ironmongery and achieve your GAI Diploma.

Stage 1 comprises 12 modules:

  • Fire door hardware
  • Door closing devices Part 2
  • Escape door hardware
  • Locks and latches Part 2
  • Hardware Part 2
  • Lettering nameplates and graphic symbols
  • Specialist hardware
  • Electric hardware
  • Access control
  • Intermediate scheduling
  • Manufacturing and sourcing
  • Commercial awareness

Upon enrolment and receipt of payment, you will be given access to the syllabus. Throughout the 12 modules there are self-check questions to ensure that you have adequately grasped and understood the various topics. At the end of each of the 4 learning blocks there is a set of ‘must-do’ course work (block assessment) questions. The marks achieved in these will form part of your overall assessment.

At the end of Stage 2, you will sit a final online examination, and, upon successful completion of this, your marks will be added to Stage 1 in order to achieve The Certificate in Architectural Hardware.

Upon enrolment, you will receive an email from GAI examination provider Pearson VUE. It is advisory to book your examination time immediately to avoid disappointment. The examination date is set and cannot be changed.
